Data backup
Hard drives wear out, accidents happen and your precious files can be gone forever. To avoid losing important data, you should backup everything you want to keep.
Copying files from your hard drive onto CDs or DVDs is one way to keep treasured files safe. But with the amount of photos, videos and music that a lot of people have, it isn’t always practical to use that media. However, there are other ways to backup your data and we’ll cover some of these below.
One of the easiest ways to make copies of important
files is to employ a second hard drive (this can be
an internal or external drive) and simply copy and
paste the files onto it. You can even use a program
that automatically backs up your files onto a
designated drive at regular intervals for you. Alternatively, if
you have a network, you can save files onto another
computer or a special hard drive that attaches directly
to the network. That way, everyone on your network
can save their files in the same place.
Also, an extremely safe place for your files is online. Backing
up online is becoming more popular for home users
who don’t want to keep a second copy of all their files
in the house. It is fairly simple to use as well.
You create an account with a company that provides
the service, log in and upload (send) your files. You
can access your files from any computer in the world
that has Internet access and if you ever need to find
a file, it’s always there. Most online backup services
have safeguards to keep your files available should
something happen to their hardware, so your peace
of mind is assured.
